My first project at PhotoShelter.com was to redesign the New Member Welcome Email. I designed the email using Adobe Photoshop. In keeping with HTML email convention at the time the layout was fixed width of 600 pixels. I had to use Web-safe fonts (no web fonts :-() and was able to leverage some of the nice photography from users of the PhotoShelter service.
In coding the email I had to use HTML tables for layout, inline CSS, extensive platform testing and an email delivery service called ExactTarget. I’ve designed quite a few HTML emails since then and in hindsight I would use one of the awesome, responsive web templates available from MailChimp or Campaign Monitor, as these have been tested by professionals are legible across mobile and desktop devices.
